What should I know about copyright?
The Institute of Videography is a trade association representing professional videographers involved in many areas of video production. Part of their livelihood depends on the ongoing sale of their productions, so any unauthorised copying will result in a loss of income for them.
Our members' work will be protected by copyright laws which are recognised in almost every country in the world. Breach of copyright is theft, and can carry extremely high penalties for those that breach these rights - and also those that support this criminal act by purchasing unauthorised copies.
How can I tell if it’s not an Authentic Copy?
In 2008, the IOV introduced a scheme that would enable its members to identify their works as being 'Authentic'. The system consists of a holographic sticker which is applied to the product packaging.
In addition, each production will include a short sequence at the beginning of the programme which illustrates the hologram and warns the viewer that without the hologram sticker on the packaging the copy they are watching might not be 'Authentic'. (see sample attached to the bottom of this article)
What should I do if the holographic sticker is missing from my DVD?
If the DVD or video includes the VT sequence but does not have a hologram attached, please contact the IOV by clicking here. Please let us know the name of the production and any other information that will enable us to identify the copyright owner.
Please rest assured, your details will be treated in the strictest confidence. If you would prefer to talk to someone at the IOV, please use the telephone contact details provided below.
We thank you for your assistance in helping us to stamp out copyright theft.
